LUCSA Member Churches
The Lutheran Communion in Southern Africa is a voluntary non-profit, faith-based organization of 16 autonomous and independently constituted churches (15 Lutheran and 1 Moravian) in 10 countries throughout the sub-region. The member churches are listed below alphabetically by country. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southern Africa (ELCSA) is listed four times, as it is operating in the countries of Botswana, South Africa, Swaziland, and Lesotho (mission field). All other member churches are listed under the country in which the operate.
13 of the 16 churches are active members of The Lutheran World Federation (LWF). The Lutheran population in the sub-region is growing and is currently estimated to be approximately two million. This includes two Portuguese speaking churches in Angola and Mozambique, and three German speaking churches in South Africa and Namibia.
