The church is made of seven (7) dioceses each led by a bishop. A diocese is further divided into circuits, parishes and congregations.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Botswana is a united church which came into being from four different backgrounds. Lutheran mission work was started in Botswana by German, Finish and Swedish Missionary Societies.
