Empowering Pastoral Leadership for a Resilient Church: LUCSA Hosts Advanced Training Psycho Social Support for Clergy

As part of its continued commitment to strengthening leadership within the Lutheran Communion in Southern Africa, LUCSA is hosting an advanced-level pastoral training session focused on psychosocial support, personal renewal, and ministry development.

This gathering is a follow-up to an initial foundational workshop, deepening the engagement with church leaders from LUCSA member churches. Recognizing the complex and demanding environments in which pastors serve, this training offers space not only for learning and growth, but also for healing, reflection, and fellowship.

“As caregivers and spiritual leaders, pastors often neglect their own mental and emotional well-being,” said Rev L Kasper, LUCSA’s Executive Director. “This initiative is about affirming the need for self-care among pastors. We must create safe and confidential spaces within the Church—spaces where leaders can speak freely about their struggles without fear of judgement or stigma. A healthy pastor is vital to a healthy church.”

The programme reflects LUCSA’s holistic approach to leadership development, combining theological insight, practical tools, and psychosocial support. Through strategic partnerships with experienced facilitators and mental health professionals, LUCSA ensures the content is contextually relevant, spiritually grounded, and professionally delivered.

This collaborative model strengthens not only individual leaders, but also contributes to a more resilient and compassionate Church across the region. LUCSA’s investment in pastoral care underscores its broader vision of empowering churches to be spaces of justice, healing, and hope.
