FELM Delegation Affirms Partnership and Shared Mission During Visit to LUCSA
The Lutheran Communion in Southern Africa (LUCSA) today welcomed a delegation from the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission (FELM) for a meaningful engagement at the LUCSA offices.
The delegation which included Tero Norjanen, Director International Coorperation and Teresa Juhaninmaki Regional Director – Africa, brought warm greetings from FELM and expressed deep appreciation for the work LUCSA continues to carry out across the region. Particular recognition was given to LUCSA’s commitment to supporting its member churches and strengthening Lutheran Christian education—an essential foundation for nurturing faith formation, leadership development, and vibrant congregational life in Southern Africa.
During the discussions, the FELM delegation also shared insights into their current strategic direction, highlighting a shift towards a fellowship-based partnership model. This approach emphasizes accompaniment, mutual learning, and shared responsibility in mission, moving beyond partnerships that are primarily centred on financial support.
The meeting opened space to explore several areas of potential collaboration going forward. FELM reaffirmed its commitment to walking alongside LUCSA and supporting the work of the communion as it continues to empower member churches and strengthen ministry across the region.
The visit concluded on a note of encouragement and renewed commitment to deepening partnerships that build a strong, resilient, and forward-looking Lutheran witness in Southern Africa.
